Exposing Hillary So She Won't Get Elected

Trump’s Call to Ban Muslims: Good or Bad for Hillary?

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” until the country’s representatives can “figure out what is going on.”

The Trump campaign released a statement Monday about his commitment to preventing Muslim immigration. The campaign justifies this discrimination by saying that large segments of the Muslim population bear “great hatred towards Americans.”

“Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension,” Trump said in the release. “Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine. Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.”

How will this kind of demagogic rhetoric affect Hillary’s chances in the general election?

As usual, Hillary has been deadly silent on the issue, no doubt waiting to see which way the wind is blowing instead of aggressively condemning Trump. It is sadly likely that a fair number of Americans agree with Trump, or at least support the general concept.

So what will Hillary do? Trump’s statement may push her further right. She is smart enough not to fully alienate her liberal base by outright agreeing with Trump. However, by not signaling some sort of quiet agreement, she risks ceeding to Trump a lot of votes, especially if another San Bernardino-level attack takes place as we head into the general election.

Prediction: Hillary will go with what she knows, a carefully-parsed “it means what you want it to mean” stance. Perhaps something along the lines of “While I do not fully agree with my opponent, and support America’s long history of welcoming immigrants, clearly something more must be done.”
