Steve Bannon to Make Appearance at UC Berkeley ‘Free Speech Week’

Former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon intends to make an appearance at the University of California, Berkeley in honor of “Free Speech Week” later this month.

The four-day event starts September 24 and will feature conservative speakers such as Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter. Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro will speak at the campus the week before.

“Mr. Bannon will deliver short remarks on the final day of Free Speech Week,” the press release for the event reads.

According to Reuters, about 15 protesters shouted “No Bannon, no racism” and held up a sign that read “Nazis are not welcome here” outside of Bannon’s Tuesday event in Hong Kong.

The university announced it is preparing against protester violence with an “increased and highly visible police presence” ahead of Shapiro’s September 14 speech. Coulter and Yiannopoulos are expected to draw protesters as well.

Yiannopoulos is rumored to have considered returning to work for Breitbart News under Bannon. The former Breitbart tech editor announced his meeting with “Uncle Steve” last week, although he did not mention the purpose of the meeting.

“Berkeley Free Speech Week is attracting speakers of the highest caliber,” Yiannopoulos commented Tuesday, per the press release. “Uncle Steve was the force behind Trump’s election victory and much of his initial policymaking. Nothing could be better for the leftists who oppose Trump so vehemently than a lesson in the logic behind Trump’s actions, direct from the architect of his policies.”
