Haley Tells UN: Kim Jong-Un is ‘Begging for War’

On Monday, U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley declared that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is “begging for war.”

War is never something the Unites States wants — we don’t want it now,” Haley said during an emergency session of the U.N. Security Council. “But our country’s patience is not unlimited. We will defend our allies and our territory.”

The Security Council session was called to talk about North Korea’s recent underground nuclear test.

Haley vented America’s impatience with diplomatic solutions.

“Despite our efforts over the past 24 years, the North Korean nuclear program is more advanced and more dangerous than ever,” she said. “They now fire missiles over Japanese airspace. They now have ICBM capabilities. They now claim to have tested a hydrogen bomb. And just this morning there are reports that the regime is preparing for yet another ICBM launch.”

Haley said the U.S. is tired of talks without results.

“We’ve kicked the can down the road long enough,” Haley said. “There is no more road left.”

“Enough is enough,” she added. “We have taken an incremental approach, and despite the best of intentions, it has not worked.”

Chinese Ambassador to the U.N. Liu Jieyi said that China supports a plan that ends North Korea’s nuclear program in exchange for the U.S. and South Korea ending their joint military exercises.

But Haley believes that such a proposal is “insulting.”

“The idea that some have suggested a so-called ‘freeze for freeze’ is insulting,” she said. “When a rogue regime has a nuclear weapon and an ICBM pointed at you, you do not take steps to lower your guard. No one would do that. We certainly won’t.”

Haley said the U.S. will go its own way to punish nations propping up North Korea, echoing a comment from President Donald Trump that the U.S. might end with trade with any nations that do business with North Korea.

“The United States will look at every country that does business with North Korea as a country that is giving aid to their reckless and dangerous nuclear intentions,” Haley said.
