Peter King Says that President Trump Has to Fire Steve Bannon

Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) believes that recent comments from White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon were enough to warrant his removal from the White House.

“I think it’s important for the president to fire Steve Bannon,” King said before alluding to comments Bannon said in an American Prospect interview published on Wednesday. According to the Free Beacon, King complained to ABC’s New York affiliate on Thursday about comments Bannon made regarding North Korea and the Democratic Party’s focus on racism.

“[T]he longer [Democrats] talk about identity politics, I got ’em,“ Bannon reportedly told the Prospect. ”I want them to talk about racism every day. If the left is focused on race and identity, and we go with economic nationalism, we can crush the Democrats.”

In King’s opinion, Bannon was “exploiting the racial issue.”

And contrary to Trump’s previous threats, Bannon told the Prospect that military action in North Korea was not a “solution”:

“There’s no military solution [to North Korea’s nuclear threats], forget it. Until somebody solves the part of the equation that shows me that ten million people in Seoul don’t die in the first 30 minutes from conventional weapons, I don’t know what you’re talking about, there’s no military solution here, they got us.”

King described Bannon as “undercutting the president” and called again for his removal from the White House:

“Also, the fact that he is undercutting the president, the secretary of defense, the secretary of state, and the head of the National Security Council on North Korea; to me, his time in the White House should be over.”

Trump warned last week that North Korea’s further provocations could be met with an unprecedented attack, and even went so far as to warn of a response of “fire and fury.”
