Conway on Trump Cutting Off ACA Cost-Sharing Payments: ‘He’s Going to Make That Decision This Week’

On this week’s “Fox News Sunday,” Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway was the show’s first guest. In light of the Republicans’ failure to pass their health care bill this week, host Chris Wallace asked her about the statement that President Donald Trump tweeted on Saturday:

As Trump had already not committed to sending the cost-sharing payments due to insurers as Affordable Care Act subsidies for some Americans, the widespread reaction to this tweet was that he was saying they would be withheld. “Is the president gonna cut off the … out of pocket payments?” asked Wallace. “He can do it starting next month, [which is] this week.”

“Yes he can,” Conway replied. “He’s going to make that decision this week, and that’s a decision that only he can make.” Conway then confirmed that Trump’s tweet was indeed about the cost-sharing payments. She then pivoted to say that Americans are frustrated that congressmen “are not beholden” to the exchanges, even though they do buy insurance on the exchanges.

At that point, Wallace ran out of time.
