Russia and US Agree to Multilateral Ceasefire in Syria

Based on an agreement between two of the world’s major powers, a ceasefire will take effect in Syria on Sunday.

Three U.S. officials confirmed on Friday that the U.S. and Russia agreed to the Ceasefire in the on-going Syrian civil war. Jordan and Israel, which both border Syria, are also part of the agreement, according to the Associated Press.

The news came as Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump met face to face on Friday.

Both the U.S. and Russia have backed opposing forces in the war. A previous agreement between Russia, Turkey, and Iran set up de-escalation zones in Syria, but that didn’t result in a cease-fire like the one announced on Friday.
