Scarborough on Trump’s Fake ‘Time’ Cover: 14 Real Ones Weren’t Enough

There was a report that at least a few of Donald Trump’s golf clubs prominently display a fake Time Magazine cover has served as a lot of fuel for analysis and mocking of the president.

Whether Trump commissioned it himself or an employee felt the need to have it made for some reason, its existence is generally striking Americans as strange.

On Thursday’s edition of “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, host Joe Scarborough opened a quick segment about Covergate by showing off a fake cover of his own: One showing Scarborough on the cover of GQ, which he claimed was from 1987. “I won The Masters; everybody remembers [Jack] Nicklaus in ’86, nobody remembers me winning The Masters.”

Scarborough also joked that his alleged pro golf achievement came while he was sleep-deprived from joining U2 on the original “Joshua Tree” tour.

“Nothing makes a man feel better than making a fake cover of a magazine about himself, lying every day, and destroying the country; it’s a good feeling,” added co-host Mika Brzezinski. “But enough about me,” Scarborough then interjected so they could directly address Trump.

“He’s covering his hands here because they’re teensy,” Brzezinski joked. But it was daily panelist Willie Geist who boiled down the topic to the basic point: “Donald Trump, actually, was on the cover of Time Magazine 14 times, you would think he would put one of those up there.” Scarborough added that “It wasn’t enough, was it?”

Trump previously said he thinks he has the magazine’s record for the most covers, but is 40 covers behind Richard Nixon.
