Huckabee Says Trump Deserves Nation’s Thanks; Congress Does Not

Former Ark. Gov. Mike Huckabee said Monday that America needs to thank the man guiding it, but not Congress, which hasn’t achieved much.

Huckabee, appearing on Fox & Friends Monday, said Trump has accomplished a lot in 150 days despite getting little to no help from Congress.

“They really have not measured up to the president’s performance,” Huckabee said. “They haven’t passed the budget. They haven’t done the repeal and replace (of) Obamacare.”

Huckabee noted that Republicans promised Americans for yours what they would do if they had the opportunity, but when the time came, have done less than advertised.

“They made promises for seven years. And they failed to fund the border wall. They’ve not done anything to help this president implement the policy of getting taxes lower and reforming the tax code,” he explained.

Trump has been a “remarkable president.”

“Let me tell you what I feel like America needs to say to Donald Trump. It’s very simple: ‘Thank you, Mr. President,’” Huckabee said.

Trump has succeeded everywhere except where those on Capitol Hill refuse to let him, Huckabee said.

“Thank you for creating a new environment with our foreign friends across the world, and frankly making some new friends who before you took office, Mr. President, were our enemies,” Huckabee said. “Thank you for helping to bridge a whole new world between the Chinese and the Arabs of the Gulf states. Thank you for repudiating regulations. Thank you for creating an environment where the stock market is sky high.”

Huckabee said that Americans should not confuse Trump’s exterior with the man underneath.

“Donald Trump is kind of like a doctor who sometimes has a rather gruff bedside manner. Nobody’s going to argue that point. He can be crude and he can come across sometimes less than people think,” Huckabee said.

“But by golly the patient is alive and I’d rather have this president, who gets things done, then one who comes in, he’s nice and he’s polite and he smiles, but my family member dies in the hospital bed,” he continued.

Huckabee then repeated the bottom line.

“America needs to say two words to Donald Trump: ‘Thank you,’” he concluded.
