Exposing Hillary So She Won't Get Elected

Gingrich: It’s the Deep State vs. Trump – GOP Must Choose a Side

According to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, James Comey’s testimony revealed to America how the deep state works.

It also became a moment when President Donald Trump’s alleged allies will need to make a choice.

“America is on a knife’s edge. The question is now whether Republicans in Congress will have the courage to stand with President Trump and fight the deep state that was personified in Comey’s testimony Thursday,” Gingrich wrote in an op-ed published on Fox News.

As FBI director, Comey could have gone through the proper channels at any time to request a special prosecutor to investigate Trump, wrote Gingrich. Instead, he told the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday how he manipulated the media and Congress after his firing by leaking memos to bring about an investigation, even after telling Trump the president wasn’t subject of any probe.

“This statement is tremendously important because it completely delegitimizes Robert Mueller’s so-called independent investigation and reveals it as poisoned fruit,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich then noted the result of Comey’s machinations.

“So, what we have here is a fired FBI director, who leaked private material to the press, so he could get his friend appointed as a special counsel in order to take retribution on the president — with the aid of a department full of federal lawyers who would have rather seen Hillary in the White House. And we are supposed to believe this will be an objective, unbiased investigation?” Gingrich wrote.

Gingrich said this is typical of the deep state — the cluster of bureaucrats who protect their power over everything else.

“Comey’s testimony, and the situation he orchestrated around it, really show the depths to which the deep state will go –working around Congress, outside of even the federal process — to damage and undermine President Trump. And it perfectly illustrates how sick the system has become,” he added.

Gingrich warned that the goal of the deep state is broad.

“I describe deep state operatives like Comey as the permanent opposition. They will stop at nothing to mar the Trump presidency in order to keep their influence,” he wrote. “Make no mistake: This is not about law and order, it is not about justice, it is not even about any investigation. This is about influence peddling, this is about the search for vengeance, and this is about stopping the revolution President Trump was elected to implement. This is everything that sickens normal Americans about the swamp.”

Katrina Pierson, a former Trump campaign spokeswoman, took a similar approach, saying Comey “opened the door and exposed problems in the deep state” and the leak of his own memos was an example of the “deep state” at work.

Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s first campaign manager agreed.

Comey “is the deep state in Washington that is everything that is wrong. He admitted under oath that he gave his contemporaneous notes to a law professor,” Lewandowski said. “He was the director of the FBI when these notes were taken and he’s turned them over to a law professor to ensure The New York Times got that information. And if that’s what he has done. If he continues to do this, if this is his pattern as the FBI director, he absolutely should have been fired. And if he is the chronic leaker, he should be potentially prosecuted for leaking the information.”
