Trump: ‘This is the Single Greatest Witch Hunt of a Politician in American History’

After releasing a calculated and measured White House statement following the appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel for the Russia investigation, President Donald Trump took to Twitter early Thursday morning to vent his thoughts on the matter.

The first tweet sent Thursday morning, accuses both the Clinton campaign and the Obama administration of committing “illegal acts,” while pointing out the lack of a “special counsel” for those matters.

The second tweet suggests that the investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russian officials amounts to “the single greatest witch hunt” in American political history:

A statement from the president, released by the White House Wednesday evening, suggesting that a thorough investigation would only absolve Trump of any wrongdoing:

As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know – there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity. I look forward to this matter concluding quickly. In the meantime, I will never stop fighting for the people and the issues that matter most to the future of our country.

Before Trump’s most recent tweets, it had been over two days since a tweet was sent from the president’s personal account that appeared to be written by the president.

On Tuesday, Trump used Twitter to defend his decision to share intelligence with Russian diplomats and to air frustration about leakers in his administration.
