USS Truman Does an Insane Rudder Test

Last month, after President Donald Trump said he was prepared to send an “armada” to the Korean Peninsula in order to handle strongman Kim Jong Un, North Korean state media said it was prepared to sink the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson “with a single strike.”

The Vinson is a carrier belonging to the Nimitz class of aircraft carriers. As it happens, so does the USS Harry S. Truman. And for reasons that will become clear soon, that should be giving Kim the mother of all panic attacks.

In the video below, the large USS Truman does a tight turn at high speed. Sounds easy, until you realize how large an aircraft carrier is – and how much stress both the ship and the aircraft aboard it are under.

When you see the video, you’ll realize just what I’m talking about.

There are two types of reactions to a video like that. One is the type of person that gets immediate seasickness and wants to run to the bathroom. The other (and I must confess to being among them) is the kind of person who looks at it and says “awesome.”

Well, actually, there’s a third type of person: Those in North Korean leadership will be afraid after seeing this.

For all Kim’s talking, Kim presides over an outdated military that talks tough but has nothing.

Meanwhile, we have the real deal – a state-of-the-art aircraft carrier that can do maneuvers that tear a North Korean ship half its size apart. And if that’s not enough, we have nine other carriers where that came from.

According to the BBC, when North Korean media threatened the Vinson, they said that “(i)n the case of our super-mighty pre-emptive strike being launched, it will completely and immediately wipe out not only the US imperialists’ invasion forces in South Korea and its surrounding areas but the US mainland and reduce them to ashes.”
