Elizabeth Thomas Makes Bombshell Reveal in First Update Since Returning from Kidnapping

Since returning home after her former health teacher, Tad Cummins, allegedly kidnapped her, Elizabeth Thomas has been in rehab.

Thomas and Cummins were on the run for 38 days before a tipster led police to a small cabin in a remote part of Northern California, where they were found.

What happened during those 38 days is still a mystery, but details are slowly coming out.

According to earlier reports, Thomas’s lawyer, Jason Whatley, told People that Thomas was forced to eat wildflowers in order to survive. Whatley said it appeared as though she hadn’t showered during the time she was missing.

Cummins admitted to his wife, Jill Cummins, that he’d been intimate with the teenager.

After being found, Thomas went into rehab at an undisclosed location. Her father, Anthony Thomas, told ABC’s “20/20” that his daughter had endured both mental and physical changes.

The 15-year-old reportedly lost a significant amount of weight during her time with Cummins. Anthony also witnessed Thomas suffering severe mood swings. He told “20/20” that Thomas would go from smiling to curled up in a ball crying in a short amount of time.

While no one has heard from the teenager directly, a source close to Thomas is speaking out on her behalf, telling the Daily Mail that she refuses to return home to her family.

After getting into Cummins’s car on March 13, Thomas made a disturbing change to the biography section of her Instagram account. She added the word “wife” a with a ring emoticon next to it.

She also posted multiple photos with quotes about being in love.

The close source told the Daily Mail that Thomas is still “in love” with Cummins. While authorities and Thomas’s lawyer are claiming she was kidnapped, Thomas disagrees. She reportedly views herself as a “fully grown woman” who should be able to date her former teacher.

The Daily Mail also reports that Elizabeth admitted to her friends that she had the time of her life while on the run with Cummins. The source explained:

“Elizabeth says she’s in love with Tad and that the pair of them haven’t done anything wrong. […]

As far as she’s concerned it was all one big, fun road trip. She says she had the time of her life which is obviously pretty tough for the family to hear.”

The source revealed that her line of thinking is why Thomas is still in rehab three weeks after returning back to Tennessee.

The source said that Thomas will remain in rehab until she understands that she was a victim of a predator; there is no date set for her release.

Once she does leave the rehabilitation center, according to the source, Thomas doesn’t want to return hme to live with her father, whom she blames for splitting up her and Cummins.

According to the source, the teen wants to live with the woman she considers her “second mom,” Paige Griffith, who is the mother of her closest friend.

Anthony, on the other hand, told “20/20” that Thomas was happy to see him after returning home:

“It was really great to have her tell me that she loved me.”

For Cummins’s part, his lawyer, Ben Galloway, told the media in an earlier interview that Cummins didn’t “coerce” Thomas into fleeing with him, but rather that she wanted to run away on her own.

Thomas’s legal team reputes that claim, calling it “amazingly absurd” and continuing to argue that Cummins groomed Thomas.

Cummins is facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, sexual contact with a minor, and bringing a minor across state lines for sex. he is currently being extradited to Tennessee.
