Brian Williams JUst Got Smacked Down by MSNBC After ‘Patronizing’ Rachel Maddow

Brian Williams has had it hard these past couple of years.

After being ousted from his anchor desk at NBC over a few “exaggerated” and “misremembered” stories, Williams spent several months on the sidelines.

His return to the MSNBC quickly became a joke when people realized his show, “The 11th Hour,” was only 30 minutes.

On April 6, when news broke that President Donald Trump’s administration fired several tomahawk missiles into Syria, Williams got a little taste of what he’d been missing. MSNBC brought him in to report on the news, interrupting Rachel Maddows’ regularly scheduled show.

The immediate response from viewers was that MSNBC was sexist because it simply did not allow Maddow, who was already talking about Syria on her program, to report the breaking news as it came in.

Mediaite reported:

As they tend to do, MSNBC hauled Brian Williams in for the special report.

Here’s the thing, though: Maddow was already at the anchor’s desk talking about Syria. Why didn’t she get to helm the initial coverage?

Many on social media felt the same way.

But the thing that got Williams in trouble was what he said to Maddow at the end of the broadcast. Page Six reported:

After Williams hijacked Maddow’s show to break the Syria missile news earlier this month, he turned to her live on air at the end of the segment and said, “Thanks for visiting tonight. Glad you were a part of our coverage.”

Viewers — who were already mad that MSNBC slipped “Lyin’ Brian” in to break the news when Maddow was already at the anchor desk talking about Syria — flipped out.

@Barbvas tweeted, “Annoyed to hear Brian Williams thanking Rachel Maddow for assisting with coverage — he took over her show!!”

It wasn’t just the viewers either. Page Six also reported that the people within the network weren’t exactly happy with William’s comment:

A source at the network said, “Not only did Brian go way over the top with his coverage of the missile strike, he then totally patronized Rachel by thanking her for ‘visiting’ her own show and being ‘a part’ of his ‘beautiful’ coverage! Has he not learned anything from ‘Misremember-gate’?”

In addition to this, Williams seemed to have been reprimanded for his “patronizing” comments:

“Sources said MSNBC chief Phil Griffin was furious with Williams’ disdainful treatment of Maddow,” the report stated. “According to a source, ‘Phil gave Brian a very stern rebuke, telling him, ”Don’t you ever do that again.“ But Rachel didn’t seem bothered by it and just laughed it off.’”
