23-year-old Jinger Duggar is starting become a bit of a trailblazer.
The newlywed and fourth eldest Duggar girl has been getting a lot of favorable attention for what she has been wearing lately. First, after she was spotted wearing shorts:
Then, when she posted a photo from a family trip to Chip and Joana Gaines’s Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas, revealing she wore pants:
And in an episode of “Counting On,” fans noticed the newlywed wearing a shirt that exposed her shoulders while honeymooning in Australia with husband Jeremy Vuolo.
For the most part, fans approve of Jinger’s new look while many wonder if her outfit choices have to do with her being married.
As Hollywood Life noted, no Duggar daughter has ever been photographed wearing form-fitting shorts or pants, with the exception of snow pants while sledding.
Duggar matriarch Michelle has spoken about their family’s modern modest” approach to dressing, which reflects a ladylike presence and keeps the body covered from the neck down to below the knees.
Jessa was reportedly scheduled to speak at a seminar about it.
Jinger’s husband though, sees things differently.
As Hollywood Life explains, Jeremy, a pastor in Laredo, Texas recently gave a sermon about a woman’s choice in what she wears. He reportedly said:
“It is your liberty as to whether you dress modestly with a modest pair of pants, or with a skirt, or with a T-shirt, or with a blouse.
It is not your liberty, women, to wear sensual, seductive clothing that is designed to draw the attention of your brothers.”
That last point is one the Duggar family get agree with, as Michelle has said that revealing clothing “defrauds” others, which she explained is “stirring up” sexual desires that cannot be fulfilled.
Jeremy has previously spoken about a strict approach to dressing for religious reasons. From Hollywood Life:
Jinger’s husband has actually preached against this kind of legalism in the past, saying that despite noble intentions, it’s over the top.
Vuolo believes that the point of the Bible was never to create “an army of Christian clones” who all follow the same endless list of rules.
When it comes to what people are allowed to wear, eat, or drink, “Jesus does not save people to make them wear skirts,” Jeremy said.
Hollywood Life writes that, according to the Institute of Basic Life Principles, which the Duggars follow for their religious inspiration, when a woman gets married she’s no longer under the “authority” of her father; Her husband becomes the one in control.
