Just Mentioning New DNC Chairman Tom Perez Gets Boos Before Speaking at DNC Event

Democrats kicking off the “Come Together and Fight Back” Tour in Maine did not have a warm welcome for their new Committee chairman.

As soon as the mentioned the name of the new Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez’s name at the tour stop in Portland Monday, the crowd booed, The Daily Caller reported.

“Regardless of why you showed up today, you showed up for a reason. Something compelled you to find the space and time to be here, and I want you to ask yourself what that reason is,” leader of the Maine Young Democrats, Claire Cummings, said speaking to the gathered crowd.

“Maybe it’s because you love a certain senator from Vermont,” she said, referring to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

The crowd cheered and began to chant  “Bernie, Bernie, Bernie.”

“Maybe you came though because you’re curious about the new DNC chairman and the future of the Democratic party,” Cummings then said, referring to Perez. But despite a few scattered cheers, the audience reacted with boos to the mention of his name.

Perez was elected in February for the DNC chair over left-wing Bernie Sanders supporter, Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison. In a speech made last month, he painted a dark picture for the Party, declaring Democrats were suffering from a “crisis of relevance and a crisis of confidence.

Perez and Sanders have embarked on a “Unity Tour” across the country in an effort to rebuild grassroots activism.

You can listen to his rather unhinged speech below:

“He didn’t want the Affordable Care Act branded after him. I don’t know what to call it. Trumpcare? Ryancare? I’ll tell you what I’d call it. I don’t care,” Perez said.

“Those Republican leaders and President Trump don’t give a sh** about the people they were trying to hurt,” he added, drawing applause.
