Barack Obama now may have Americans foot the bill for his extravagant library, which will of course be named after him so people can walk the halls and gravel over the former president’s accomplishments.
Page Six reports that Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago will require a large $1.5 billion in endowments, a startling three times the amount that Bush’s presidential center in Dallas cost.
Architects who are leading the project, Husband-and-wife architectural team Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, said the center is so expensive because the library and museum will feature a large area specifically devoted to telling the entire story of Barack and Michelle’s life. And because of federal requirements now stipulating that Obama can have a larger endowment to pay for his library, congrats America, because you will be paying for it.
From the Judicial Watch report:
According to bills obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Secret Service also paid for rooms at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki and Golf Club. The Secret Service also reserved rooms at the Moana Surfrider resort on Waikiki Beach, and the Ala Moana Hotel, which cost a total of $40,249.48 and $671,895.99, respectively.
The Secret Service rented cars from Avis, Alamo, and Hertz — 103 cars for the two-week vacation, totaling $165,893.88 in taxpayer money.
Reportedly, the Obamas stayed at the Hale Reena Estate, which “rents for anywhere between $5,000 to $10,000 a night, depending on the season.”
If you’re outraged yet, let’s remember the other large amount of taxpayer dollars Obama spent with his Obamacare and the ARRA costing the country trillions.
According to Page 6:
The Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago could require a $1.5 billion endowment, its architects say, three times what was raised for the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas.
Husband-and-wife architectural team Tod Williams and Billie Tsien noted that it will be difficult to raise such a huge sum because Obama scrupulously declined to do much fundraising while he was still in office.
The Obama Center is due to be so expensive because it will require the construction of both a presidential library and a museum about the lives of Barack and Michelle Obama. And federal requirements now stipulate that former presidents must have larger endowments to pay for annual operating costs at the libraries.
