Bill Maher Just Dropped a Harsh Truth Bomb…on His Own Side: ‘We Need to Stop Shutting People Up’

Comedian Bill Maher sits on the left, but there have been several times that he has left his own side – most notably is how the left treats Islam and those who practice it.

This past week, after UC Berkeley almost went up in flames  over the fact that internet celebrity Milo Yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak on campus, Maher brought up free speech.

On a “Real Time” panel that also featured The Blaze’s Tomi Lahren, Maher brought up the subject of the violent protests that broke out on the UC Berkeley campus Wednesday evening. Lahren was the first to respond:

“Nothing that happened at U.C. Berkeley the other night was good. It was militant. It was a riot. It was not a protest.”

Maher then lamented the fact that the left was engaging in “shutting people up” instead of promoting free speech:

“They protested someone that I think we’ve booked on our show. So I guess we’ll be putting on extra security…

Look, I’m not against free speech. Believe me. I’ve been a longtime critic of colleges shutting people up. That is a problem on the left that we need to deal with very much so.”

Maher noted that Yiannopoulos was a provocateur, but claimed that was no excuse for rioting, saying, “Free speech should be something we (liberals) own.”
