Texas Court Rules Against Clock Boy’s Family… Now They Pay

Last month, “Clock Boy” Ahmed Mohamed suffered a defeat when a district judge dismissed his family’s defamation suit against several news stations and prominent pundits.

Then, on Thursday, the 162nd District Court of Texas dismissed another complaint his family filed – this one against The Daily Wire founder and conservative Ben Shapiro.

The court also ordered that Ahmed Mohamed pay the defendant’s attorney fees.

“This is an excellent day for free speech,” Shapiro said after the ruling, according to The Daily Wire. “Using law as warfare is perhaps the most disgusting tactic of politically correct activists across the country, and we couldn’t be more excited to stand up against such frivolous use of our court system.”

Townhall noted that Mohamed’s family filed the suit in October 2015 after Shapiro questioned the boy’s story and motives while speaking on Fox News.

“The story didn’t hold water from the beginning,” he said then, referring to Mohamed’s claim that Islamophobia was the reason he had been detained by authorities for bringing a clock that resembled a bomb to school. “Within the first 48 hours it was clear that this was a bit of a set-up and it was clear that the story didn’t hold together.”

In a statement, Shapiro’ attorneys called the decision an important victory for American freedom.

“Ben never once wavered, never even considered giving in, and we are grateful that the court has unequivocally reaffirmed his and every American’s right to speak freely,” attorney Kurt Schlichter said.

Good on Ben Shapiro for taking a stand for the First Amendment.
