Media Sets up Interview for Trump Ban “Victim”… The He Says “I Like Trump!”

Hameed Khalid Darweesh, an interpreter who had worked with American troops in Iraq for over a decade, made remarks after his release that he liked President Trump and agreed with the temporary immigration ban, despite being detained at Kenned Airport in New York City. He had been detained for 19 hours at the airport, according to The New York Times.

Darweesh had become a small celebrity after his detention, particularly because of his role interpreting for American troops, and it didn’t take long for Darweesh’s predicament to spread across the internet.

The left played it up:

Even Republican opponents of President Trump got in on it:

When Darweesh was released, people were excited to hear what he had to say, but the didn’t expect it to happen like this:

“I like him!” Definitely not what the media wanted to hear. For that matter, it seems to have gone over a bit worse with Rep. Velazquez, who appears about to be sick. Either way, it clearly didn’t work out how anyone had planned, and you could almost hear faces dropping all around him.

Darweesh wasn’t totally uncritical of the new policy. “What I do for this country? They put the cuffs on,” he said. “You know how many soldiers I touch by this hand?”
